F45 trainer, Jay Duke, reveals where you could be going wrong.
Eating too many ‘healthy’ snacks
Everywhere from supermarkets to cafes are stocked with seemingly healthy snacks.
But just because something is branded as healthier than your average chocolate bar, doesn’t mean it’s not packed with sugar, preservatives and calories.
Jay says, “You still need to manage how many of these type of snacks you eat and make sure they fit in your diet plan.
“My best advice would be to have a look online at some great recipes and make your own snacks.
“That way, you know exactly what they are made of and can ensure you stay completely on track.”
You may think missing meals is a clever way to keep your calorie count down but Jay says it could cause a worrying spike in your blood sugar levels.
“Try to eat regularly so you are consistently fueling your body, therefore you don’t get spikes in your bloody sugar causing you to want to go for the sugary snack option.”
Big portion sizes
Just because something is healthy doesn’t mean you can have unlimited amounts. Sadly.
Jay says, “The food you are eating may be healthy and nutritious but you still need to be mindful of your portions and only eat until you are full.”
Not planning ahead
They say failure to prepare is preparing to fail and that phrase strongly applies to weight loss.
“We can all say we are on a diet but the hardest part is preparing for it,” Jay insists.
“By planning and prepping your meals ahead of time, it will help you stay on track and meet your goals.
“If you don’t have your meals and snacks planned for the day, we all know how easy it is to put the hand in the biscuit tin at the office when we feel peckish!”
Falling off the wagon
Everybody will suffer a slip up but Jay explains that it’s the way you overcome a diet cheat that will determine how you stay on track.
He explains, “One bad meal is not going to make you put on lots of weight.
“But if you let one meal become a whole bad day and then a bad week, you can easily fall off the wagon and undo your hard work.
“If you overindulge once, put it behind you and move forward with your diet afterwards.
“Don’t see it as a failure or a reason to give up.”
